Barite and hematite grinding in Venezuela
Weighting materials for drilling fluids, milled in our own plants.
Since 2005 PROAMSA has milled weighting materials for drilling fluids in Venezuela. Our two mineral mills process barite, hematite and calcium carbonate under current quality-control practice, and our products have been used successfully by PDVSA.
| Material | Specific gravity | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Barite (barium sulphate) | ≥ 4.20 g/cm³ | API / ISO |
| Hematite (iron oxide) | ≥ 5.05 g/cm³ | API / ISO |
| Calcium carbonate | 2.7–2.8 g/cm³ | Acid-soluble |
Barite is the most common weighting material. Hematite is denser and is used where higher mud weights are needed. Calcium carbonate is used mainly for its acid solubility, as a bridging agent in drill-in fluids.
Process line
- Primary crushing: feed hoppers, conveyor belts and jaw crusher
- Mill feed with magnetic separation
