PROAMSA

Drilling waste management in Venezuela

From collection to final disposal of drill cuttings and oilfield waste.

PROAMSA was founded in 1996 to reduce the environmental impact of oil activity in Venezuela. We collect, transport, treat and dispose of oilfield waste using flocculation, bio-treatment and land spreading, with our own infrastructure, machinery and technology for remediation.

Oil-based cuttings

Cuttings are received on a concrete yard and characterised by a registered laboratory. Based on oil-and-grease content and the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, they are blended with topsoil, fertiliser, sawdust and leaf litter, then placed in aerated and irrigated biopiles until they meet Article 53 of Decree 2635. The treated material is spread and the vegetation cover is restored with grass or native species.

Water-based cuttings

Water-based waste is collected and taken to our treatment centre, characterised by a laboratory registered with the Ministry of the Environment, stabilised with fertiliser and incorporated into the soil with heavy machinery. A final sample verifies the limits of Article 50 of Decree 2635 before the vegetation cover is restored.
